Food and Drinks in SWG Nexus
In SWG Nexus, the food and drink system has been extensively overhauled to integrate seamlessly with the server's custom profession and combat mechanics. This includes new buffs that extend beyond combat utility, revised item stats, and innovative features like dynamic digestion and stomach capacity. Whether you're a new player grabbing a quick buff from a cantina bartender or a master chef crafting high-end consumables, food and drinks play a vital role in enhancing GAMEPLAY. This page covers the core mechanics. For the complete list of food and drink items (approximately 80 in total) with their stats, please visit https://nexus.swgtools.com/cheffmenus.
Overview
All food and drink items in SWG Nexus have been adjusted to align with the server's unique systems. This means:
- Expanded Utility: Buffs now include non-combat benefits like increased surveying, taming bonuses, XP boosts, and more.
- New Resources and Stats: Items feature revised durations, quantities, and effectiveness based on crafting resources, experimentation, and Bio-Engineer (BE) additives.
- Filling Mechanic: Reintroduced from pre-NGE eras, "filling" determines how much "stomach" Space an item consumes. You can only consume an item if you have sufficient Space available.
- Dynamic Digestion: Your stomach empties over time at rates influenced by player level, buffs, and environmental factors like planetary climate and gravity.
- Buff Scaling: If an item buffs multiple attributes, all of them scale based on the item's nutritional value (previously, only the first attribute scaled).
- Consumption Rules: Different types of food/drinks can be consumed together, each maintaining independent buffs. Consuming the same type stacks duration (up to a 2-hour cap), but only the last item's attributes apply.
- Instant Items: Support for instant-effect consumables, such as immediate heals (Health/Action/Mind) or cures (Poison/Disease).
- Faction Checks: Certain items include faction restrictions; refer to the Secret Research Data page for details.
- Cantina Bartenders: Found in major cantinas galaxy-wide, they offer a refreshed menu with affordable, entry-level items for minor enhancements.
These changes make food and drinks more strategic and immersive, encouraging crafting professions like Chef and Bio-Engineer while providing accessible options for all players.
Mechanics
Filling and Stomach Capacity
- Each food or drink has a "filling" value, calculated from resource quality, experimentation during crafting, and BE additives.
- Your character has a virtual "stomach" with limited capacity. Consuming an item deducts from this capacity based on its filling.
- If your stomach is too full, you can't consume more until it digests enough Space.
- Stomach capacity is shared across food and drinks but managed separately for buffs.
Digestion Rates
Digestion determines how quickly your stomach empties, allowing for more consumption. Rates are dynamic and affected by:
- Player Level: Higher levels increase digestion speed.
- Buffs: Certain food/drinks (e.g., T'illa T'ill) can increase or decrease digestion rates.
- Environment: Planetary factors like climate (e.g., arid deserts vs. temperate forests) and gravity adjust rates—harsher environments might slow digestion, while milder ones speed it up.
- Species: Different species have inherent relative digestive rates for food and drinks, which modify the base digestion speed. Positive values increase digestion rate (faster emptying), while negative values decrease it (slower emptying). These are relative modifiers applied to the standard human rate (0 for both food and drink).
Species Digestive Rates
| Species | Relative Drink Digestion | Relative Food Digestion |
| Sullustan | 9 | 6 |
| Mon Calamari | 12 | -12 |
| Bothan | 10 | -6 |
| Ithorian | -4 | -12 |
| Human | 0 | 0 |
| Twi'lek | 14 | -2 |
| Wookiee | 3 | 15 |
| Rodian | -5 | 11 |
| Zabrak | 7 | 7 |
| Trandoshan | -7 | -13 |
Buff Stacking and Duration
- Independent Buffs: Food and drinks of different types (e.g., one for Dodge, another for Health Regen) can stack without interference.
- Same-Type Stacking: Consuming multiples of the same buff type adds to the duration (max 2 hours), but the effects are overwritten by the last item consumed.
- Scaling: All buffed attributes scale with the item's nutritional effectiveness, making high-quality crafts more potent.
Instant Consumables
- Some items have "Instant" duration, providing immediate effects like healing damage or curing ailments.
- These bypass normal duration stacking but still consume filling.
Crafting and Acquisition
- Professions: Chefs craft most items, with sub-branches like Entrees, Desserts, Mixology, and Domestic Arts.
- Resources: New resources influence stats; experiment for optimal quantity, duration, filling, and effectiveness.
- Bartender Menu: Affordable basics for new players—quick buffs without crafting.
- Loot and Vendors: Some items are looted (e.g., Mandalorian Wine) or vendor-exclusive (e.g., Kommerken Steak from Meatlumps Theme Park).
