Player Cities are communities founded, governed, and funded by players. A city's mayor manages it through the city control panel in the archive room of the City Hall. On SWG Nexus, cities need fewer citizens to reach each rank, making them more accessible to smaller communities.
Founding a City
- Place a City Hall deed on a planet that has not reached its city limit (see City Limits by Planet below).
- The character who places the deed automatically declares residence at the City Hall and becomes mayor.
- Within 24 hours, two more characters must place a house within 100 m of the City Hall and declare residence there. This brings the city to the three citizens required for Outpost rank.
City Ranks
A city's rank is based on its number of declared citizens. Its rank sets the city radius and determines which civic structures can be placed.
| Rank | Title | Citizens | Radius | ||
| 1 | Outpost | 3 declared | 100 m | ||
| 2 | Village | 5 declared | 200 m | ||
| 3 | Township | 7 declared | 300 m | ||
| 4 | City | 9 declared | 400 m | ||
| 5 | Metropolis | 15 declared | 500 m | ||
Structures Unlocked by Rank
| Rank | Title | Newly Available Structures | |||
| 1 | Outpost | City Hall, Small Gardens | |||
| 2 | Village | Medium Gardens, Bank, Garage, Cantina | |||
| 3 | Township | Large Gardens, Cloning Facility, Hospital | |||
| 4 | City | Shuttleport, Theater | |||
| 5 | Metropolis | No additional structures | |||
Promotion and Demotion
Each city updates once a week. The City Maintenance Terminal in the City Hall shows the time of the next update. Rank and citizenship are checked before taxes and maintenance are processed:
- Promotion: The city moves up if it has enough citizens for the next rank, subject to the planet limits below.
- Demotion: The city moves down if it no longer has enough citizens for its current rank.
- Notification: The mayor is notified of any change in rank.
City Limits by Planet
| Planets | Total Cities | Rank 3 or Higher | Rank 4 or Higher | ||
| Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine | 20 | 15 | 10 | ||
| Dantooine, Lok, Rori, Talus | 50 | 30 | 20 | ||
Civic Structures
The mayor places civic structures, and their maintenance is paid from the city treasury.
| Structure | Required Rank | Weekly Maintenance | Footprint | ||
| City Hall | 1 (Outpost) | 3,500 cr | 7x9 | ||
| Small Garden | 1 (Outpost) | 2,000 cr | 3x3 | ||
| Medium Garden | 2 (Village) | 2,000 cr | 5x5 | ||
| Bank | 2 (Village) | 150 cr | |||
| Garage | 2 (Village) | 1,000 cr | |||
| Large Garden | 3 (Township) | 3,000 cr | 7x7 | ||
| Cloning Facility | 3 (Township) | 2,000 cr | |||
| Shuttleport | 4 (City) | 2,500 cr | 5x5 | ||
Citizen-Placed Structures
These structures are placed by citizens with the required profession rather than by the mayor.
| Structure | Required Profession | Required Rank | Lots | Footprint | |
| Cantina | Master Dancer or Master Musician | 2 (Village) | 5 | 7x7 | |
| Hospital | Master Combat Medic or Master Doctor | 3 (Township) | 3 | 5x5 | |
| Theater | Master Dancer or Master Musician | 4 (City) | 3 | 5x7 | |
Cantinas and theaters help citizens recover from Battle Fatigue and Mind Wounds, while medical facilities treat Health and Action wounds.
Decorations
The mayor can place decorations in a city of any rank. Fees are paid from the city treasury.
| Decoration | Placement | Maintenance | |||
| Fountains | 100 cr | 150 cr | |||
| Statues | 100 cr | 150 cr | |||
| Streetlamps | 100 cr | 150 cr | |||
| Terminals | 100 cr | 150 cr | |||
Specializations
A specialization gives the city a bonus in exchange for additional maintenance. A city must be Rank 3 or higher and can have one specialization at a time. The mayor can change it once a week, and the change takes effect at the next city update. A specialization stays active until the mayor changes or removes it.
| Specialization | Benefit | Weekly Maintenance | |||
| Cloning Lab | Cloning Sickness costs 50% less to remove | 8,000 cr | |||
| DNA Laboratory | Reduces each cycle by 3 hours | 20,000 cr | |||
| Encore Performance | Storyteller items last 12 hours longer | 20,000 cr | |||
| Entertainment District | Increases the duration and tick of entertainer buffs | 8,000 cr | |||
| Improved Job Market | Terminal missions pay 20% more | 8,000 cr | |||
| Manufacturing Center | +10% to the crafting assembly phase | 5,000 cr | |||
| Medical Center | +10% to medical buffs and healing inside the Medical Center | 8,000 cr | |||
| Research Center | +15% to the crafting experimentation phase | 12,500 cr | |||
| Sample Rich | +20% resources from sampling and a 10% chance of finding resources | 7,000 cr | |||
Maintenance
Maintenance is taken from the city treasury once a week, after rank is validated. The total depends on the city's rank, structures, and specialization. The city terminal in the City Hall shows a full breakdown; the structure terminal does not.
City Hall maintenance is paid first, followed by the other structures. If the treasury runs short:
- Civic structures become damaged, and the mayor is notified. A structure is destroyed if its condition reaches 0. Check a structure's status at the City Maintenance Terminal.
- Mission terminals, skill trainers, and decorations are destroyed, and the mayor is notified.
- City Hall: If the City Hall is destroyed, all civic structures and decorations are destroyed and the city is disbanded. With no maintenance paid, a city takes about four weeks to decay.
Elections
Elections run on a three-week cycle, shown on the Voting Terminal as Voting Week 1, Voting Week 2, and Election Week.
- Candidates, including the current mayor, can register only during the first two weeks.
- Candidates can withdraw at any time.
- All citizens receive mail when a candidate enters or withdraws.
- Citizens must cast their own votes; no votes are cast automatically.
| Result | Outcome | ||||
| Challenger wins | The new mayor receives all mayoral abilities, civic structures, and decorations | ||||
| Challenger loses, or the vote is tied | The current mayor stays in office | ||||
| No challenger | The current mayor is automatically reelected | ||||
Galactic Civil War Alignment
A city can align with the Imperial or Rebel faction or stay Neutral in the Galactic Civil War. Aligned cities earn these bonuses toward Factional Presence in the overlapping GCW region:
[-]
- 100% point gain
- +10% point gain per city rank
- +5% point gain per year since the city was founded
Cities that are not aligned can still have roaming factional spawns outside their borders.
Comparison to Classic SWG
Nexus lowers the citizen requirement for every rank. It also shrinks the Outpost radius and expands the Metropolis radius.
| Rank | Title | Classic Citizens | Nexus Citizens | Classic Radius | Nexus Radius |
| 1 | Outpost | 5 | 3 | 150 m | 100 m |
| 2 | Village | 10 | 5 | 200 m | 200 m |
| 3 | Township | 15 | 7 | 300 m | 300 m |
| 4 | City | 30 | 9 | 400 m | 400 m |
| 5 | Metropolis | 40 | 15 | 450 m | 500 m |
